“A couple’s memorable escape from reality”

Having had Caroline create a trip through Southern Africa before, it made perfect sense for the couple to have her curate a romantic escape to East Africa for them. The brief was to combine authenticity with luxury whilst encapsulating romance and adventure throughout. A combination of varied safari experiences ending with an island escape were the key ingredients to set the stage for their travels.

We’re travel specialists who pay meticulous attention to experience while crafting your luxury travel journey.

They had done extensive research - they knew what they wanted and would spare no expense. On the one hand, the pair - who are naturally very energetic and adventurous - longed for unique experiences that would challenge them and provide incredibly memorable stories; while on the other, they wanted to spend quality time together just relaxing and unwinding. And with a strict three-week time-frame for this journey, Caroline had to find a way to craft a journey that packaged both desires - giving the couple the best of both worlds.

Their journey began in the Northwest corner of Rwanda at Virunga Lodge. This hidden gem - amongst the lush rainforest - offered a secluded sanctuary for the two to settle; a place the couple could wake up to “a view of a thousand hills” overlooking the Virunga volcanic peaks and breathe in the fresh African air.

The main focus of their safari in Rwanda was to encounter the magnificent magnificent Mountain Gorillas. The couple’s morning Gorilla tracking experience took them deep into the forested area, the encounter with the gorillas was intimate and unimaginable - a moment they would treasure and remember for years to come. The magic of the Volcanoes National Park and rolling hills of Rwanda had undoubtedly set the scene for their romantic getaway.

Caroline knew that Tanzania would be the very place to etch the magic of Africa onto their hearts; and so it was only fitting for the two to continue their journey here. The couple moved on to their next location with a seamless connection from Rwanda to the Serengeti. The Singita Mara Tented Camp that overlooks the iconic Mara River was the perfect choice as it encompassed the exclusivity, romance and luxury they were looking for. The Lamai Triangle is different to the other Serengeti regions and during their stay, they witnessed a river crossing and enjoyed a very special hot air balloon safari at sunrise. This bucket list activity was the perfect opportunity for them to see the huge herds of the Great Migration from the air - really the only way to gauge the magnitude of the number of migrating wildebeest and zebra across the plains.

Pure Wilderness; unmanicured, unseen and untouched.

To really combine luxury with authenticity, the couple chartered further south in the Serengeti to spend a few nights at Legendary Serengeti Camp - a mobile camp that follows the migrating herds; a place where the couple had their own highly qualified private guide and vehicle on hand. Their days were structured around their own schedule, their needs and their preferences. Their special request to view predators was ticked off as the couple encountered large prides of lions, hyena and cheetah at close range. Being a mobile camp with no electricity, the lanterns set the tone for romantic evenings and the dedicated staff spoilt them with special surprise dinners and warm, friendly embracing hospitality.

With the goal of connection and celebration in mind, Caroline planned for the couple to travel to one of her personal ‘must-see’ spots - Little Chem Chem; an acacia-fringed oasis on the edge of Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park. This secluded camp on it's own private concession offered the couple an intimate getaway into a wildlife haven; and allowed them to experience Africa in a different way. On their last evening, Africa put on a spectacular private show for them; they enjoyed a special sundowner along the edge of Lake Burungi where hundreds of pink flamingos graced the pan of water feeding before the night crept in. The timing was perfect as the flocks of birds slowly became camouflaged with the warm glowing horizon and a romantic night under the unspoilt starry sky unfolded before them - as if they were the only two people in the world.

The final destination, Mnemba Island - just off the coast of Zanzibar, provided the time and space to relax and unwind after their successful safari adventures. The couple enjoyed Mnemba’s pristine white beaches and clear turquoise waters; it was the private island escape they were hoping for. The perfect ending to the final breath of their trip was experiencing tiny turtle hatchlings make their way towards the waves and joining them in their first-ever swim in the ocean.

Africa had delivered and showed off her glory. As the two waved a content ‘goodbye-for-now’ to the pearly beaches and vast plains that had been their private world for a perfect three weeks, their next adventure was already being planned...

“Caroline and the team at Classic Escapes curate African dreams! Our experience in Eastern Africa will be etched in our hearts forever. Breathtaking silence is not the absence of sound, but rather the unmuting of nature.
